A day of favorites: favorite Breckenridge coffee shop; (one of my) favorite outdoor mountain locations; favorite red dress. Loved every second of the cozy Breckenridge, Colorado winter engagement session last season.
When I first started chatting with Shelby + Michael about their Breckenridge, Colorado winter engagement session, she brought a whole host of ideas to the table. She had a vision and it. was. perfect. The cozy coffee shop cuddles at one of our favorite Breckenridge spots; the quick snaps in town of her red velvet dress; the frozen waterfall, the mountains, the forest. Literally all my favorite things combined to make one beautiful winter engagement session.
We started at The Crown, our favorite little local coffee shop in Breckenridge, for some drinks and cuddles.
Ah, the pre-Covid days. It’s bringing a lot of joy looking through old sessions lately, and this one especially brings up good memories of normal times. An engagement session INSIDE a coffee shop? Without masks? What the heck is going on. It’s similar to how watching movies or shows right now with large crowds and family gatherings makes you feel a little off (jealous/weird/sad/confused, pick your emotion), looking at these images actually makes me so freaking happy, because we’re going to have all that again someday. This isn’t forever and these sweet mask-less coffee shop cuddles will be a possibility again – soon, I hope!
Then, we headed south out of town to a favorite spot, boasting a frozen waterfall, big mountain views, and magical pine trees.
This beautiful spot closes to vehicle traffic every winter, but most seasons late fall allows just enough perfect winter vibes so you can experience the snowy, frozen magic before it closes for the season. Last year was exactly this. The added magic of the snowy mountains, the completely frozen waterfall – does it get any better? Luckily the air was still warm enough to frolic around without needing to bundle or stop for too many warm-up breaks, which gave us tons of time to shoot and really show of Shelby’s red velvet dress and the sweet love between these two.
I think you’ll really love this engagement session. xo

Sierra JessupBeautiful! I love the idea of having engagement photos in a coffee shop and then transitioning to an outside location! Especially loved the image of her changing into her boots. And that dress! The color was captured so beautifully!
Basecamp VisualThank you! Love that you mentioned the boots shot – one of those total spur of the moment accidental images. Those are ALWAYS my favorite!
DylanWow, this is incredibly beautiful. Those last few days on roads that close seasonally are always so magical and private-feeling. Beautiful photography!
Basecamp VisualI couldn’t agree more! Love a good ol’ gravel road location. 🙂
LizOk! Seriously! I am dead! I love an adventure shoot with the mountains, but I also love the snuggly coffee shop sessions. And you were able to include both! Winning!
Basecamp VisualBest of both worlds, for sure! Thank you!
SiennaThis is the perfect winter engagement! I love how you were able to document both an urban vibe, but also the adventurous spirit of Colorado!
Basecamp VisualThank you! It was so fun. We rarely shoot in town – even if it IS an adorable little mountain town like Breckenridge – so this was a fun treat and change of scenery.
Traci EdwardsLove all the snow. How freaking adorable.
Basecamp VisualRight?! If I could only shoot in the snow I totally would! LOVE winter sessions!
Heather HuieWow!!! Her red dress just pops in this session
Basecamp VisualMore red dresses, please!
EmmyThis is so stunning adorable. The coffee photos are so romantic!
Basecamp VisualThanks so much!
JessicaI love that they picked a meaningful place for them then moved to the mountains for epic engagement photographs! I agree – the dusting of snow on the mountains is so beautiful!
Basecamp VisualIt was perfect! Makes me so excited for more coffee shop sessions once the world goes back to normal. xo
