When you start thinking about how you want your wedding or elopement day to go, one big question is this: to first look or not to first look. You may find yourself wondering “what are some reasons to do a first look?” But first, what even IS a first look? If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a first look is this: it’s a scheduled time to see your future spouse, all dressed in your wedding attire, prior to your ceremony. The alternative to a first look is choosing to wait to see each other for the first time until you’re walking down the aisle for your ceremony.
A first look is a smart choice for emotional reasons, but also purely logistical ones, too. Here are our top three reasons to do a first look!
1. Calms the nerves.
You’re gonna be nervous. You’ll have butterflies, maybe even feel a little queasy. Taking a moment to see each other before the ceremony eases the nerves and allows you to soak in that moment, together. You can hug and kiss and cry, spending as much time just being together as you need, without the eyes of everyone at your ceremony watching you.
2. Helps the timeline.
A first look allows time for your couples portraits BEFORE your ceremony. Since you’ve already seen each other, this also can allow time for some bridal party and family group photos/video, too! Your timeline will flow better and be far less tight. Plus – you know everyone just wants to head to cocktail hour after your ceremony.🥂If your timeline is tight due to any number of reasons – a late ceremony, early sunset, large family group list, etc – first look is an easy way to spread out the main events and allow you some time to breathe.
3. More alone time together.
A first look before your ceremony means more time spent together on your wedding day. Isn’t that what it’s all about? A smart timeline with a first look allows your day to be YOUR DAY. Every precious minute counts and on your wedding day, we believe as many of those minutes should be spent together.
