It’d be easy to mistake Heather & Matt’s Hartsel, Colorado engagement photos for a Harvey Dunn painting. Timeless, artful & filled with emotion, we’re in love with this session!

Heather & Matt are also Fairplay locals, and in a small town such as ours, it’s no wonder our paths crossed long before doing this beautiful engagement session on their ranch land outside of Hartsel, CO.
Heather, the owner of Middlefork Farmhouse (previously known as The Woolly Moth) is an incredible artist. You’ve surely seen her work in the shops around town! We’ve partnered together on a multi-session set of lifestyle brand photos for her business – some of my favorite brand shots have come from my work with her. Especially fun news for Heather is that as of March of 2026, she’s opened a new brick & mortar shop right on Front Street in Fairplay, CO. I can’t wait to see her fill it with beautiful goods of her own & other handpicked artists and creators. She’s got such a great eye!
Regardless of our friendship & an established working relationship, I don’t think either Heather or I could’ve imagined the art we’d be able to create & how much we’d both genuinely LOVE their engagement photos.
It seems like you can almost smell the air when you look at these photos. The dust, the gentle breeze. The unspoiled, fresh Colorado landscape that seemed to go on forever. Their beautiful property was raw. Vast. Untouched in many areas. The stream softly trickled through the expansive pasture, with the mountains of South Park Colorado towering behind us.
It took my breath away.
I was obviously thrilled to hear that Rocky Mountain Bride wanted to featured Heather & Matt’s Hartsel, CO engagement session on their ranch in the Spring/Summer 2026 issue!
We’ve loved partnering with Rocky Mountain Bride by being a part of their Vendor Collective. You can see our profile here! They’ve featured SO many of our favorite sessions & weddings on their blog, BUT… this is our first PRINT feature – and such a beautiful session & couple to share that honor with!

For couples like Heather & Matt, who wanted photos that felt like love-at-home, including their animals & setting the session on their private ranch land was the perfect choice & a clear no-brainer. They coordinated beautifully with their blue & black denim. Matt’s cowboy boots & hat added to the authenticity of the true rural Colorado ranching vibes. The dark clouds rolled over the mountains with the small threat of rain, but it held off & created a perfectly moody sky that we couldn’t have better imagined. Their effortless style paired beautifully with the existing landscape & ease of which they exist with each other.
They’d recently added their two beautiful horses to the crew of chickens & dogs. We included them all. What could’ve easily felt like chaos was honestly just so easy & so them.
This engagement session truly holds such a special place in my heart. It was everything I could hope for as a storyteller – honest, real, artful. Here are more of my favorites of Heather & Matt (and their crew). I hope you love each & every one.
We know we’re not your only option, but we hope to be your favorite one. Because we’re dreamers just like you, and we’re already picturing (pun intended) your photos and films, destined for magazines and big screens.
