intentional elopement in the mountains

Planning an Intentional Elopement in the Mountains

On our very first call, Colleen & Tom expressed the desire for a deeply intentional elopement day. One rooted in sacredness & the earth. No frills – just the two of them, their families, & a love that feels like home.

It was the most magical of Colorado elopements.

There’s something unmistakably unforgettable about late May in the Colorado mountains. The air still carries that quiet, cool crispiness, & pockets of our trail were still covered in snow! For Colleen & Tom, it was the perfect invitation to design a wedding day centered on intention. It was soft, meaningful, and so beautifully, perfectly their own. With the peaks of the Colorado Continental Divide still dusted in snow and new spring growth peeking through the ground & on the trees, their elopement was one we won’t soon forget.

Every detail felt like it had been chosen with heart.

Dark clouds rolled through in the distance, and we had umbrellas to pass around, just in case the sky decided to open up. Tom showed up in crutches – which felt incredibly ironic for the hike we had ahead, haha. Their group (just parents & siblings) laughed easily, moved with no sense of urgency (in the absolute best way), and soaked in every beat of the day without the stress that so often comes with big celebrations. Their families, the people who know them best and love them deepest, gathered close, making the mountains feel even more like home. Side bar: one of our favorite spots about this location is that we can literally point to the mountain our own home is on! The joy wasn’t loud & rowdy. It was warm, steady, and present in every single detail.

What unfolded on Tom & Colleen’s day wasn’t just another mountain elopement – it was a gentle reminder that weddings can be simple and still full of depth. Colleen & Tom didn’t try to do everything; they chose to do only what mattered, planning an intentional mountain elopement. And in that choice, their day became exactly what they hoped for: fun, heartfelt, and unmistakably theirs.

Such an emotional day. A mountain elopement filled with all the best & most beautiful things.

We believe firmly that your wedding day should feel magical & it should feel like you. Being intentional with your planning is a huge part of that!

Here are 5 recommendations for planning an intentional elopement in the mountains.

  1. Keep your guest list intimate.
  2. Consider the location of your ceremony.
  3. Keep decor to a minimum.
  4. Plan meaningful tasks or events for your guests.
  5. Let go of the “shoulds” and only do what speaks to you.

Their wedding film showcases a celebration of their easy energy & their abundant joy – beautifully meshing together the many emotions that made their day so meaningful.

And their gallery – snapshots in time. A collection of our faves.
