Megan & Chris’ maternity session at Garden of the Gods felt like a page pulled straight from Vogue. It was effortless & sexy, with a dash of editorial tossed in.
We’re no strangers to photographing in the mountains, but shooting a maternity session in Garden of the Gods was a dramatic & gorgeous change of scenery.
Set against the dramatic red rock formations Garden of the Gods is known for, Megan moved with confidence & made my “job” as easy as it gets. There’s a rare kind of beauty that comes from being truly comfortable in your own skin, and she radiates it. No pressure, little posing. Her presence, beauty, and strength is something I’ve always admired about her & it was so fun to be able to photograph her in this season of life.
We’ve known the McKenna family since our early days living in Colorado Springs, more than a decade ago! I first worked for Megan’s mom, Kim’s, store – Barracuda Bazaar in Old Colorado City, and we all eventually became friends.
I did a one-time stint as coordinator for Megan & Chris’ wedding (the planner life is not for me, haha).
Megan’s sisters, Paige & Olivia, have babysat our boys.
I photographed their other sister, Abbie & Adrion’s engagement session in Chicago.
Megan now cuts all of our crew’s hair, so we get to catch up regularly.
Watching their family’s stories unfold over the years has been one of the greatest honors. Further proof, not that you need it, right?, that photography isn’t just about a single milestone, but about showing up again and again as life evolves.
