Fall is one of our favorite seasons for family photos in Colorado, especially with those who are willing to lean into the moment & let their kiddos lead the way.
Fall in Colorado has a way of slowing everything down – just enough.
The air turns crisp, the light grows softer, and the mountains shift into layers of gold and amber.
For the Mulvaney family, these family photos in Colorado were playful, relaxed, and full of movement from the very beginning. Their girls danced through the trees, kicked up piles of fallen leaves, and followed their own curiosity wherever it took them. With every family session, I’m focused on creating space for connection, letting your kiddos explore & in a sense, guide the entire path for the session.
The girls wore matching dresses that twirled beautifully as they ran, bringing a sense of togetherness without trying too hard. Lots of sweet moments in the chaos. These are the fleeting details that make fall family photos in Colorado feel so meaningful.
Young children bring a special kind of magic to family sessions. It’s messy and loud and wildly beautiful. This stage of life doesn’t ask for perfection – we’ve got three little boys, I certainly understand how it goes!
I jokingly (but with truth & honesty) tell every parent I work with that they may leave their family session with thoughts like “what the heck just happened?” But I promise, PINKY SWEAR, there’s magic there & I’ll find it.
This is why we love photographing families in the fall (and all year long!). Not for the matching outfits or the golden leaves (though we love those, too), but for the way this season invites families to slow down and just be. These images are less about everyone looking at the camera and more about remembering what this fleeting chapter felt like – the chaos, the joy, the moments that pass by so quickly.
