I was so excited when Ashley & Rafael reached out & told us they wanted something sexy, moody, and a little unexpected for their engagement photos – and then suggested Breckenridge’s newest speakeasy, the Canary at Hotel Alpenrock!
Tucked behind an unassuming secret door (shhh, we won’t tell), Hotel Alpenrock’s, The Canary, is the kind of space that instantly sets the mood. Dim lighting. Tons of texture & dark, rich colors. A modern bar that feels both elevated and intimate. Leather, wood, velvet, marble. It’s the perfect contrast to the mountain town outside.
The design is old, refined, and oozing with character. I’m pretty sure I literally squealed when we walked through the door. We were granted private access (yay!!), which meant Ashley & Rafael could truly relax, fully enjoying this awesome space & each other.

The Canary’s design honestly did half of the storytelling for us. Clean architectural lines, dramatic shadows, warm ambient lighting – and the wallpaper! I love a good wallpaper. Ashley stunned in a look that matched the speakeasy engagement photos mood perfectly. Anyone else getting Taylor Swift at the 2025 Grammys vibes? Rafael looked classic & classy in all black with clean white tennis shoes.
This session was so fun because it allowed me to slow down, intentionally setting up each shot & working with lighting in a way that I don’t normally. The kind of challenge I am always up for!
