After you get engaged, it’s easy to wonder: how do we make sure we take amazing engagement photos? We’re sharing 5 easy tips to help!

You’re officially engaged & eye-balls deep in your wedding planning. You might be thinking about scheduling engagement photos (you totally should – here’s why!). But first…

So, how do you take amazing engagement photos?

There’s no one answer to this. But, luckily, there are some things to consider that can help!

Here’s what to keep in mind to make sure you get amazing engagement photos!

  • Location. This isn’t everything, but it’s a great place to start. Talk with your photographer about your vision – they’ll surely have some beautiful recommendations for you.
  • Which brings us to: choosing the right photographer! Research photographers. Look at their public reviews & style (websites & social media are great for this!) – you can even ask to see full galleries. If you love their style, reach out to see if you love them! You want to feel comfortable & have fun together. You’ll know quickly if you vibe! Maybe this will help.
  • Attitude! Show up ready to play. To laugh, to cuddle, to HAVE FUN. That’s the whole point of your engagement session, after all – to have fun. If you can shake off the nerves and just let yourselves be together, you’ll get amazing engagement photos!
  • Plan something special! What do you love to do together? Include it in your engagement session! Your favorite board game, a stop for beers, a small picnic, your beloved Jeep. Whatever it is, make it you!
  • Finally – get amazing engagement photos! It’s really as simple as that. When all the pieces come together, it’s a beautiful thing!

Maggie + Chris knew exactly how they wanted to celebrate – with a relaxed, intimate, family focused wedding in a place so dear to their hearts, Del Norte, Colorado.

Their early May wedding wasn’t without a little stress – but, no code red fire danger or dust ground funnels could stop me from getting there! When I say I drove through actual dust tornados, I mean it! It was SO windy! But somehow, through the magic of a Colorado wedding day, once I arrived in Del Norte, the wind calmed & the air cleared.

It set the tone for the most perfect day.

When Maggie first reached out, she mentioned they’d be celebrating at her family’s “basecamp”, Wayforward Adventures. Of course, the minute we read Basecamp, we knew it had to be fate. A match made in wedding photographer + soon-to-be-married-couple heaven!

It was such an honor to witness the joy of this family focused wedding day. Everyone there, as Maggie so sweetly shared, “vibes together” – and that couldn’t have been more true! Her son played pool with the guys, her sister, mom, and sweet niece helped her get dressed. Best friends, dear family – it was a true celebration of love.

Rachael & Kevin’s beautiful fall Breckenridge wedding at Sevens Restaurant was a showstopper! We joined the amazing Kayle & her team at Petal & Bean; the design – the colors, the details – was a perfect fit for this beautiful day. The slopes, a place so important to Rachael & Kevin, served as the backdrop.

Is there anywhere better than Colorado in the fall?

We probably say this about every single season here, but wow – fall is sure something special. These glorious 4-6ish weeks of vibrant color and cool mornings & warm days are incredible.

Rachael & Kevin wanted to share this beautiful place, one that is so special to them, with their friends & family. It was a gorgeous wedding day!

What is this crazy life?

Calling the mountains our home has been a dream come true. Being chosen to be witness to and document such important, spectacular days in your lives in this place we call home is a dream we didn’t even realize we had.

Fall Family Photo Outfit Inspiration

It’s the time of year where you’re likely deep in your closet, trying to figure out how to dress you family for your upcoming photoshoot. We’ve share some fall family photo outfit inspiration to make it easier!

How do you know what to wear? What to dress your kiddos in? We’re to help.

It’s no secret we love family sessions! We’ve got our own crew, as so many of you know, and we deeply value the professional family photos we get every year with our dear friend, Kyla. But when it comes to planning our outfits, it’s the one part I find myself often second guessing! You, too?

Does outfit planning have you stumped? Here’s our fall family photo outfit inspiration!

Start with colors!

Think about your colors first. We recommend neutrals or rich jewel tones. Black & whites are fun, too! No need to be matchy, but think instead about how you can coordinate! Either way, if you’re set on something patterned, try to make sure some in your group are in non-patterned outfits, just to keep things from being too visually busy!

Add TEXTURES!

Nothing screams fall family photo inspiration quite like all the chunky textures. Wool, felt, your favorite jacket. Don’t be afraid to mix it up here. The more varied your textures, the better!

Don’t forget the playful accessories.

We LOVE a good hat, like Tiffany added here! Think about fun boots or your favorites leather jacket. Maybe a colorful scarf! You can also bring along your favorite plaid blanket for a fall picnic.

And something fun for the kiddos. 🙂

A cute headband. A sparkly bracelet they love to show off. Or, in Tiffany & Amos’ case – well, actually in the case of their sweet boy, Stone – a precious moose sweater hoodie.

A Snowy Winter Wedding in Colorado

Marissa & Josh came to Breckenridge with dreams of a snowy winter wedding in Colorado. That’s exactly what they got!

Breckenridge is a winter lover’s playground. Whether it’s skiing or snowboarding; winter hikes or skinning or snow-shoeing. The glorious months of November – April are magic for for those who revel in fuzzy socks & oversized sweaters & warm hats.

It’s incredible for those of us who live here, for those of you who travel here every season, and for those of you who maybe have never even seen snow… yet!

Marissa & Josh gathered those dearest to them for a March getaway – for a snowy winter wedding in Colorado! It was a gorgeous, emotional day filled with so much joy. When the snow started to steadily fall during their portraits it completed the final piece of a dream come true.
